Crane Creek Country Club

Boise, ID – 9/15/18

Clubhouse: A

Larger clubhouse with a variety of equipment selection, various style and brands. They have a large locker room with plus amenities.

Bar: A

They have a large bar and restaurant area! They have a variety of beer and liquor selections. I ordered a club sandwich just before my tee time and they delivered it to me on the second hole for no charge. The sand which was delicious too!

Amenities: A+

Definite country club amenities! They will carry your bag up to the club house for you, load it in the cart and then give you information on where to change, use the restroom and where the driving range is.

Price: $$$$

I’m not sure what a typical round cost. I was with a member their who paid for my round. I will find out and put it in the review.

Practice facilities: A-

The practice facilities were pretty cool An elevated driving range, kind of hitting down into a narrow canyon. Hard to tell distances but that could just be because it was my first time there and I didn’t notice.

Staff friendliness: A+

The staff was extremely friendly. Even though they knew I wasn’t a member that didn’t stop them from treating me like one. I felt like I was royalty golfing there. After the round a member of the staff cleaned each and every club in my bag!

Carts (if riding): A

Normal battery powered carts. They had sand to fill in divots attached to the cart and a phone charger plug in.

Tee boxes: A

The tee boxes were in great shape! Flat and green!

Bunkers: A

The bunkers were well above average. Sand was soft and consistent from hole to hole. I was only in the sand twice and had a couple nice shots because the sand was so soft.

Fairways: A+

Fairways are in great shape. Most of them were pretty soft some a little too soft in my opinion. You could feel how much water it had absorbed on some holes.

Greens: B+

The greens were in good shape but very tough to read. When you walked on it they were extremely soft and waterlogged almost. But when you putt, they rolled like the greens were hard and dried out. Maybe if I was a better golfer they wouldn’t have actually been so tough.

Difficulty: 8

I’m about a 12-15 handicap and probably could have played a decent round but I started out pretty bad. There isn’t a lot of room for error on a lot of holes and the fact that the greens were so tough made it even harder. After the first 9, I found my swing a little and still had trouble knocking them down.

Ambiance: A

The ambiance at this course is amazing. The course sits at the base of the mountains, just below Bogus Basin. Our local ski mountain. The views of the city and mountains can’t be beat. A few holes play in the middle a couple foothills and provide a scenic view. The front 9 and back 9 are very different. The back 9 is brand new as of 2017 and plays more like a links style course, where the front 9 is more a traditional style.

Overall Experience: A

My overall experience at Crane Creek was a great one! While I didn’t play my best, it was a great challenge and the staff was incredible. It’s a fun and challenging course that I can’t wait to get back out to. Also, there is supposedly a club controversy on the par 5, 15th where the fairway narrows to 10-15 yards. I didn’t get all of the information on it but it is something that is interesting enough to follow up, so stay tuned! I would say if you know somebody who is a member out there and they ask you to play… you can’t pass it up!
